On March 2nd, 2025, the International Institute of Creative Design (IICD) of Shanghai University of Engineering Science (SUES), in collaboration with part-time postgraduate supervisor and CEO of Suancheng Technology, Ms Yan Wen, successfully hosted the themed forum Chatting with AI: Once in a Lifetime at the Industry-Education Building, Room 302.
The forum specially invited AI artist Jim Huihui, whose AI animated short film Ghost Diet received the Gold Award for Best Animated Short Film at the Independent Shorts Awards. During the sharing session, Jim Huihui provided a detailed introduction of the creative process behind the short film—from initial conceptualisation to final production—and discussed how he tackled key technical challenges such as maintaining consistency in character portrayal, scene coherence, and lip-syncing, despite the limitations currently faced by AI technology. He emphasised that, regardless of technological advancements, storytelling through the lens remains the core of creative work.
The forum was also attended by industry experts, including AIGC creator Chao, the co-founder of MINERNA Edu Tech and iSGRANT Technology, EOL Yin, and JADEWU, first executive director of Jia Zhangke's film Ripening Wheat. During the roundtable discussion, the guests engaged in an in-depth conversation covering topics such as the application scenarios of AI in 3D generation and the differences between Chinese and American AI creative communities. Lastly, the guests addressed students' questions and concerns about learning AI technologies and shared valuable advice for their future studies.
