On the afternoon of 24 November, teachers and students from the Mei Guojian ‘Shenyun Dongyao’ International Talent Studio for Shanghai-Style Ceramic Art visited the Qingu Art Museum in Jiangqiao town for a cultural tour and ceramic art workshop experience. First, the participants enjoyed viewing the diverse and exquisite collection of Shanghai-style ceramic artworks in the museum, thoroughly appreciating the distinctive charm and sophisticated craftsmanship of various exhibits. Students closely observed the delicate application of Shanghai-style ceramic techniques across different artworks and gained deeper insights into the characteristics, sophisticated production processes, and intricate craftsmanship of Shanghai-style ceramics, thereby acquiring a more comprehensive understanding of ceramic arts. After the museum visit, the participants proceeded to the workshop to create their own personalised ceramic pieces. This practical activity not only allowed teachers and students to experience first-hand the joy of Shanghai-style ceramic creation but also deepened their appreciation and understanding of Shanghai culture.

The Mei Guojian ‘Shenyun Dongyao’ International Talent Studio for Shanghai-Style Ceramic Art is an education and cultural integration project supported by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission. The project aims to align with both national and Shanghai cultural development strategies, revitalise the inheritance of intangible cultural heritage in Shanghai, and encourage universities to strengthen their art and cultural disciplines and professional construction. Since its launch, the International Institute of Creative Design (IICD) has cooperated with ceramic cultural and creative designers, Shanghai-style artists, professors and scholars studying Shanghai culture, and others, organising various series of workshops. These activities have attracted widespread attention from educational circles, ceramic art communities, cultural and creative industries, and Shanghai cultural sectors, and have drawn enthusiastic participation from young students, designers, and artists from various countries, universities, and communities within and beyond campus.

This forum and ceramic art experience workshop was organised to promote the inheritance and development of Shanghai-style ceramic arts. Through practical activities, participants not only learned ceramic production techniques but also engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges on integrating traditional art with modern design.

The Shenyun Dongyao International Talent Studio project provided students with a valuable platform for academic exchange and practical learning. It enabled them to experience the unique charm of Shanghai-style ceramic arts first-hand, thus injecting new vitality into the international development of Shanghai-style ceramic arts.
